History

We’ve come a long way from making doormats in a barn!

When Asher T. Akehurst, working out of a rented Connecticut barn, started making doormats in 1889, he had no idea that more than 125 years later his company would still be making coconut fiber (coir) doormats in the USA. Based near Charleston, SC for the past 50 years, U.S. Cocoa Mat, LLC is America’s oldest doormat manufacturer and the only coco mat company that still makes doormats in the USA.
